Along with the letter, they sent a list of companies that supplied leak detection systems. I researched these companies and decided that the H2O SOSTM was the one that met our needs for several reasons. Unlike some systems, it did not require extensive re-working of all water entry locations meaning that minimal time was required for a plumber to install the major component—a valve that shuts off the water at the entry point.
There is one valve, not one on the very faucet or other water sources. The system also did not require tearing out of sheetrock. Thus, the installation could be done with minimal disruption of the home environment. Because our water sources—bathrooms, laundry, kitchen, and water heater—are not centrally located and because wall access is not possible throughout the house, we chose to install the wireless system. The sensors are located at the point of each potential leak and are connected to a wireless transmitter. Once the system is installed, all that is required of the homeowner is a monthly system check—turning the system off at the control point—and a semi-annual test of each transmitter. This is quickly and easily done. Beyond that, one has peace of mind that any leak that might occur will result in a total system shut down before any damage can be done. Our insurance company is happy, too!”
